Today the National Archives of Australia and the Public Service Commission signed a Records Authority which gives the Commission both legal authority and a framework to decide what happens to the records that they create and manage.
I encourage other departments and agencies to negotiate a new Records Authority with the National Archives of Australia, because not only is it necessary to identify important Commonwealth records, but the process can also free up a lot of expensive storage space that’s housing material that the Archives could class as disposable.
This Records Authority for the APSC is one of ten authorities issued by the National Archives since the introduction of a new streamlined approach to coincide with last August’s Management Advisory Committee review of record keeping
Other major authorities signed include the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the (former) Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources, the Australian Securities and Investment Commission, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Department of Parliamentary Services.| Media Contacts: |
