Special Minister of State, Senator John Faulkner, today announced the appointment of Mr Edward Killesteyn PSM as the Electoral Commissioner, Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).
Mr Killesteyn’s appointment is for a period of five years and will take effect on 5 January 2009.
Mr Killesteyn is currently the Deputy President of the Repatriation Commission and a Deputy Secretary at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. He has held senior Public Service positions for 23 years including four years as a Deputy Secretary at the then Department of Immigration and Indigenous Affairs.
“I am pleased to announce that Mr Killesteyn was selected for nomination following a merit selection process, in accordance with the policy for senior office holders established by the Government in 2008,” Senator Faulkner said.
The appointment of Mr Killesteyn will fill the vacancy in the AEC created by the expiration of the term of appointment of the previous Electoral Commissioner, Mr Ian Campbell, on 19 September 2008.
