MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT (STAFF) ANNUAL REPORT 2007-08

I have today tabled the inaugural Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 Annual Report 2007-08, (MOP(S) Annual Report).

This is the first time that an Annual Report relating to all employees of Ministers and other Parliamentarians has been prepared and published.

The MOP(S) Annual Report includes:

• an overview of the employment framework for MOP(S) Act employees;
• a staffing overview, including position allocations and employee numbers and types;
• salary ranges and non-salary benefits; and
• a range of other staffing-related information, including determinations made under the MOP(S) Act during the year, Occupational Health and Safety issues, and the Professional Development Program.

Apart from details relating to the engagement of Ministerial Consultants under the MOP(S) Act, there is no statutory requirement for a MOP(S) Annual Report to be published, and this report is not subject to the same statutory requirements as departmental annual reports. 

By tabling this report in the Parliament and making this information publicly available for the first time, the Government is again demonstrating its continued commitment to enhanced accountability and transparency.  The Report is available at http://www.finance.gov.au/publications/mops_annual_reports/2007-2008/index.html
