Senator John Faulkner
09/2009
6 March 2009
Special Minister of State, Senator John Faulkner, today welcomed the publication of submissions received in response to the Australian Government’s Electoral Reform Green Paper – Donations, Funding and Expenditure.
The Green Paper is an important element of the Government’s electoral reform agenda and was released for public comment on 17 December 2008.
Since then, almost 50 submissions have been received from individuals and organisations. Submissions are available at: www.pmc.gov.au/consultation/elect_reform/submissions.cfm.
“I welcome the opinions and suggestions that all contributors have provided, aimed at improving Australia’s political financing system,” Senator Faulkner said.
“The Government will consider these views during further consultations and when making decisions on the future nature of the political funding and disclosure regime.”
A second Green Paper canvassing electoral issues not associated with political funding, will be released later this year for public comment.
