The Federal Government today released the Campaign Advertising by Australian Government Departments and Agencies Full Year Report 2010-11 (the Report).
Presented to Parliament, the report maintains the high level of whole-of-government, consolidated reporting on campaign advertising by detailing media and associated expenditure on campaign advertising by Australian Government departments and agencies.
A key element of the report includes media placement costs during the reporting period for advertising campaigns where costs exceeded $250,000 by departments and agencies subject to the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997 (FMA Act).
The report shows that total campaign advertising expenditure by FMA Act agencies for 2010-11 was $116.9 million, which is a small increase from $114.7 million in 2009-10.
Data in the report is sourced from the government’s Central Advertising System, which consolidates government advertising expenditure and optimises media discounts through whole-of-government negotiated media rates.
The report covers the 2010-2011 financial year, building on the previous five biannual reports issued in March and September 2009, March and October 2010 and March 2011. In addition to recent expenditure data, this report includes historical expenditure data.
The report delivers on the Government’s commitment to increase accountability and transparency in relation to campaign advertising expenditure, and provides Australians with a transparent picture of how taxpayers’ money is spent on government advertising.
