The Special Minister of State, Mr Gary Gray, said today he had been informed that the Ombudsman, Mr Allan Asher, had submitted his written resignation to the Governor-General.
Mr Gray said the Deputy Ombudsman, Ms Alison Larkins, would act as Ombudsman while the position was advertised.
“The Office of the Ombudsman is held in the highest regard by all sides of politics as an important institution for Parliament, the Public Service and the community,” Mr Gray said.
“It is a critical part of our system of government accountability and it needs to maintain the highest standards of Independence, impartiality and integrity in carrying out this responsibility.
“I would like to thank the staff of the Office of the Ombudsman for their professionalism, commitment and dedication in what have been trying times.
