Joe Hockey has again misrepresented the size of the Australian Public Service for the eleventh time to the National Press Club today.
“For the eleventh time, Joe Hockey has claimed the Government has grown the Australian Public Service by 20,000 – when he knows it’s grown by 12,000 since June 2007,” Special Minister of State Gary Gray said today.
Mr Hockey repeated the mistake he made in his budget reply last year at the National Press Club. He has used the same figure in Parliament, on the Today Show, to ABC TV’s QandA Lateline and 7.30.
“Last August he was offered a briefing with the Australian Public Service Commission to get his numbers right, but he has never taken up the offer. Mr Hockey is disinterested in facts.”
Mr Hockey had so far refused to rebut his own plans to cut 20,000 jobs in the broad government sector.
