21 September 2012
Special Minister of State Gary Gray today said the Government will consider the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters’ (JSCEM) tabled report: “Review of the AEC analysis of the FWA report on the HSU”.
On 16 May 2012, Mr Gray referred the Australian Electoral Commission’s (AEC) analysis of Fair Work Australia’s report and a list of matters for potential reform to JSCEM for its consideration.
JSCEM’s report was tabled today and includes detailed discussion on potential reforms to the financial disclosure provisions of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918.
“I thank the Committee for their hard work in compiling this report and making a number of recommendations,” said Mr Gray.
“The Government will consider this report, including possible legislative amendments.”
“I note that a Government Bill currently before the Senate would implement a number of these recommendations if passed,” Mr Gray said.
The Government remains committed to reforms that will increase transparency and accountability of the electoral process, including reforming the funding of political parties and election campaigns.| Media Contact: | Website: |
