The remediation works on the northern boundary of the Malabar Headland site are being undertaken to upgrade an existing leachate control system to mitigate the potential risks regarding surface water and groundwater contamination leaving the site.
The works are monitored by qualified environmental scientists/engineers and procedures are in place to ensure that the public health and safety is protected. The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has also been involved with the project, and have inspected the works and taken samples. We understand that the EPA is satisfied with the controls in place and that their sample results are still undergoing laboratory testing. Any information regarding the work of the EPA should be obtained from the EPA.
